The issue at hand is the internet and human rights. This issue covers from freedom of speech and censorship to racial prejudice and online monitoring. We want to engage our audience in a positive way informing them although the internet is an ideal place for gathering information and communications, and you are entitled to speak your mind, do so with discretion. While legislative proposals are threatening the rights to freedom of speech and privacy the ability to express ones feelings and opinions is becoming limited over this platform due to these proposals. We are being monitored and censored frequently while this may be ethically wrong we have helped to instigate it. Racial prejudice has been around forever while it still continues even across the internet where people incite racial and or ethnic hatred which has been an added cause to the censorship and monitoring and invasion of privacy to individuals. We have been given the ability to say whatever we want whenever we want and this privilege should not be abused. As easily as it is given to us it can be monitored and taken away. We are pushing our own limitations to the use of these rights and we should use the internet with discretion.

ReplyDeleteThe issue we have selected is human rights and the Internet. We feel that this issue is a great and powerful force that should be discussed and brought to everyone’s attention. These issues cover such topics as censorship, freedom of speech, and racial prejudice. We have a great tool at our disposal and we wouldn’t want it be taken or reformed in any way. Many governments have taken liberties to censor or restrict the flow of information on the Internet for the betterment of their people. Though everyone should have the right to say what ever they feel like we only hope that our audience would know to use self censorship to reduce the need and the installment of government censorship. With this being said we want to grasp the audience and alert them to these risks and hurdles that we are faced with everyday. With a little self-censorship from everyone it will reduce the likely hood of a need for a government to react in such a way that they would need to blackball certain issues being discussed on the Internet.

The issues being brought forth are Internet and human rights. Though in the U.S. we have freedom of speech and the Internet is protected under this freedom, this does not mean that it has not been threatened may time before. We wish to bring forth a opinion of self censor ship. To reach our audience we wish to tug on any morals or values. The Internet is just like a city square that you can post your opinion, you should only say what you are comfortable to say in font of a large public crowd.
